On these shores...


The 27th Australian Brigade and volunteer Dalforce soldiers fought valiantly against invading Japanese troops on 9 February, 1942. Unfortunately, due to a breakdown of coordination with other forces, the defenders had to give up their position, thus making Kranji Beach the second landing point for Japanese forces in Singapore.

Sidenote: i was actually heading for the westward-facing Sarimbun Beach in the hope of capturing a spetacular sunset. Only upon arriving did i discover that the Army had annexed the beach into its live firing exercise area. So much for conserving our Historical Sites...
