i read that in India, the elephant trainers tie baby elephants to trees with rope. But being young, the baby elephants have not the strength to break away. When the baby elephants grow up to become the strong and majestic animals that they are, they would not attempt to break away when they are tied up with that same piece of frail rope, even though they could uproot the entire tree if they so desire.

Maybe bicycles are like that, too.
